Michael Heap, father of Imogen Heap shared his delight at his daughter winning a Grammy this year for her album Ellipse, after Dave Kibble brought it to the attention of the readers of the Nottingham list.
Well spotted, Dave.
The Grammy she won was for the best engineered non-classical album and, as she produced it herself, she was especially delighted – apparently the first female artist ever to win this award. Of course what to wear was the first question and she resolved it by creating a “Twitter” dress with visibly shown messages coming in from her fans live during the presentation. Her handbag even had a screen sewn into it.
She starts a brief UK tour on Sunday in Manchester, then Glasgow and as far South as Bournemouth before going back to London (which is sold out so she has booked the Albert Hall in November!) before going off to Europe and variously around the world to at least most of the croquet playing countries. Anyone really interested – her website is a mine of information.
Now this father, who is enjoying his moment of reflected glory, had better shut up.

reported by Paddy Chapman:
It was thought that Association Croquet was extinct. But on a recent expedition to a very remote part of New Zealand, I got the following, amazing video footage.
As you will find out in this never-before-seen footage, Association Croquet is not only still alive, but thriving in its own eco-system.
The following may astound you. Association Croquet players in their natural habitat.

Last 10 minutes of the semi, a rather exciting finish. I think this is game 2 of the bo5.

Once again, thanks to James Temlett for videoing.
sorry there’s no sound. Not sure what the problem is. I had to convert it from .dv to .mpg and along the way, the sound got left behind.
Paddy.
Bob Kroeger shows a series of four shots showing the effects of aiming at the mid-line or the mid-angle.
Bob says:
A video I did in 2008 following the discussion of mid line vs mid angle approach to aiming splits.
This video has four shots:
1) 70 degree 1/3 roll aiming mid angle
2) then aiming mid line at the peg
3) 70 degree stop shot aiming mid angle
4) then aiming mid line
There is a barely visible flag stick in front of me showing the mid angle point and the peg is exactly between the two flags.
The focus wasn’t so much on shot selection here. I wanted the viewer to compare the two aiming methods. I placed the SB/CB edges even with the string allowing the pull to be noticeable for the CB rather than allow for pull and adjusting the balls accordingly for the CB to go directly to the flag.
